Douglas Deen
In a rural of Washington, in 1949, a boy named Douglas Deen experienced some heavy situations. The boy was 14 years old notices peculiar noises from the walls and ceiling in his room. First suspicion was mice, but the noise kept on after the exterminator came. The noise began , soon after a favourite aunt, who liked to hold séances, taught him how to use a Ouija board. Douglas’s aunt died. He was devastated and tried to contact her using the Ouija board.
Soon the noises turned into moving furniture, jumping pictures and shaking bed. With not many ideas and a lot of fear, the Deen family called the local priest of their church. The minister witnessed all these stuff. The boy was given psychological and physical tests . He was seen by psychologists, psychiatrists and doctors that showed nothing extraordinary.
Eventually, the explanation of demons was given, so the family called a Roman Catholic priest, Walter Halloran, who stayed with the boy for 2 months, performing the exorcism 30 times and witnessing the boy ‘s shouting in strange voices and violent shaking. Finally, they felt that the demon was driven away.
The case appeared to be a standard poltergeist one. Much like similar cases, the events revolved around the young boy and stopped once he directly confronted them. .Poltergeist activity, and more importantly possession, may reflect conditions of the mind. There is some debate as to what part is played by multiple personality syndromes in cases of possession and exorcism.
